Microscopy of Irradiation Damage - 21-23 March 2018

The MFFP group is planning a small workshop-style meeting on “Microscopy of Irradiation Damage” in Oxford, 21st - 23rd March 2018.

The theme of the meeting is to discuss the different radiation induced defects that can be studied by various microscopy techniques, particularly by TEM, STEM and APT. This includes the study of dislocation loops, cavities, radiation induced segregation, radiation induced precipitation and more.

The meeting will similar in style to ones we have held in 2010 on micromechanics, in 2011 on ion-irradiation, in 2012 on ODS alloys, in 2013 on modelling radiation damage and on tungsten, and in 2014 on zirconium for nuclear applications  (link). The meeting will be low cost, so as to encourage participation from active research students and postdocs. We expect that total numbers will be about 35-50 people. There will be ample time for discussions centred around a small number of keynote lectures and two substantial poster sessions where work-in-progress will be reported.

Please register before the 5th February 2018, or there will be an additional £80.00 sign up fee and you will not be guaranteed accommodation.

Confirmed keynote speakers so far are:

  • Andrea Sand
  • Daniel Mason
  • Emmanuelle Marquis
  • Gary Was
  • Karl Whittle
  • Kevin Field
  • Mercedes Hernandez-Mayoral
  • Robin Schaeublin
  • Stephen Donnelly

Accommodation and poster sessions will be at St Edmund Hall, one of the historic colleges of Oxford. Lectures will be held at Oxford University's Department of Engineering.

Registration fees are £400 including accommodation, or £320 without accommodation.

The registration fee covers lunches (Weds, Thurs, Fri), evening meal (Weds), workshop dinner (Thurs), and drinks and snacks at breaks and poster session (Weds, Thurs, Fri). The residential registration fee also includes accommodation (with breakfast) at St Edmund Hall for Wednesday and Thursday nights. Rooms are single student rooms, and are mostly not en-suite. If accommodation is required for Tuesday or Friday nights, it is available at extra cost (£40 per night).
