Research themes


The approach will be based on innovative techniques for Micromechanical testing of FIB-machined specimens a few microns in size.


The major challenges generally are how to simulate defects interacting dynamically with evolving microstructures over much longer timescales than can be treated with any standard technique, and how to validate these simulations by comparison with experiments at elevated temperatures. To make significant and usable advances we must be able to close the loop between properties and processing by modifying the composition and processing of the material studied in the light of test results and theoretical understanding.
