Professor of Engineering Science

Fionne left Oxford in 2012 to take up a Chair at Imperial College.

Fionn Dunne was appointed Professor of Engineering Science in 2006 and has been in the Department of Engineering Science at Oxford University since 1996. Prior to this, he was a lecturer at Sheffield University and UMIST. His research is in the mechanics of materials, in particular fatigues of alloys; he has developed sophisticated crystal plasticity-based finite element models, correlated with experimental studies, particularly using EBSD to study local plastic and elastic strains. His work is funded by EPSRC, The Royal Society and industry both in this country and abroad. He was a Royal Society Industry Fellow with Rolls-Royce plc for the year 05/06. He is a member of the Editorial Boards of the International Journal of Plasticity, the Journal of Strain Analysis and the Journal of Multiscale Modelling, and is a consultant to Rolls-Royce. He is co-author of Introduction to Computational Plasticity, OUP, 2005.
